cuts to school programmesA West Derby Member of Parliament has called on the education minister to visit areas where his cost-cutting policies will make the maximum impact. MP Stephen Twigg, a former schools minister, urged Education Secretary Michael Gove to go to Liverpool and explain the effect of his cuts on youngsters. Mr Gove agreed that Merseyside secondary school projects were among the worst hit nationwide, but could not commit on whether he or a junior minister would visit. But Mr Twigg said: “We don’t want a junior, we want the Secretary of State to come and face the music.”
