Approximately 150 people attended a rally to combat plans that could see the accident and emergency unit (A&E) and the maternity unit close at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch. Campaigners gathered outside Redditch Town Hall ahead of a public meeting. Neil Stote, of Save the Alex campaign, remarked that about 20,000 people had signed a petition to save the units. He said: “These are unplanned services. You can’t plan when you are going to give birth or need an A&E.”
