West Midlands employment level reaches record high, survey finds

The level of employment across the West Midlands has reached the fastest rate of growth in February since the survey began in 1997, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.

The figures were published in the latest Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking PMI, which also revealed that employers have been encouraged to hire by strong activity growth and increasing rates of new business. Backlogs of work also increased, although input and output declined slightly.

"February was another positive month for the private sector in the West Midlands," said Mark Cadwallader, Lloyds’ area director for SME banking in the West Midlands.

"Job creation picked up to the fastest rate on record, reflecting firms’ confidence following sustained strong growth in both activity and new business. At the same time, the absence of inflationary pressures should help to support the ongoing expansion of the region’s economy."
