Leisure park to cut 198 jobs

One of the UK’s best-known leisure parks will make 198 members of staff redundant, a news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.

Staffordshire-based Alton Towers will have to implement the cuts following this summer’s rollercoaster crash, which left 5 people injured, with 2 sustaining life-changing injuries.

Alton Towers is considering cutting the staff as part of a restructure ahead of its new season in March 2016. The process was said to be due to the "devastating impact" of the incident, which has hit visitor numbers.

A consultation period with staff is set to begin as soon as employee representatives are appointed.
