Research initiative to create hundreds of jobs across the Midlands

A research consortium led by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has managed to secure a multimillion-pound funding package which could potentially lead to hundreds of jobs being created across the Midlands region, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.

The £16.6m grant will allow the consortium to develop efficient transmission systems for future use in cars. It is expected to create 60 research roles, with half based at JLR, as well as up to 130 jobs in manufacturing and engineering.

The cash will also be matched by private finance, bringing the total project funding to more than £33m.

Dr Wolfgang Epple, director of research and technology at JLR, added: "This innovative research will investigate the feasibility of potential future transmission technologies. This innovative transmission could offer reduced weight, improved fuel economy and improved driveability on and off-road.

"Collaborative research like this is hugely beneficial for all partners including academia, the supply chain and the automotive industry."
