Plans to build a 175-room hotel near Birmingham Airport, which could bring more than 100 jobs to the area, are likely to be approved by the local council in the near future, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

Should it get the green light from planners, the nine-storey structure will be built on a former taxi car park adjacent to Diamond House and Concorde House at the roundabout of Concorde Road, Airport Way and Vanguard Road.

According to plans lodged with Solihull Borough Council by Castlebridge Hotels in March, the proposals were sparked by growing demand for hotel rooms at the airport. It is expected to create 101 jobs, with a total of 65 staff being on site each day.

In documents filed ahead of the council’s planning committee meeting on Wednesday, officers said the proposed hotel would "clearly support the airport function" and would have "no impact on operations".

"The hotel would have significant economic benefits, introducing a high quality venue that would provide complimentary facilities for passengers using the airport."
