Jobs in danger as frozen pizza manufacturer loses supermarket contract

Multiple jobs at The Pizza Factory in Nottingham have come under threat as the company has lost a very lucrative supermarket contract, sources in the local business media have been able to suggest.

The facility employs a total of 781 staff, as well as 310 agency workers. After holding talks with The Pizza Factory’ management, representatives of workers’ union Unite revealed no jobs will be lost until January 2017.

The union vowed to safeguard 325 jobs in the facility.

Unite regional officer Andy Shaw said: "We now have a clearer picture of the company’s thinking. We are at the start of the 45-day consultation period and we will leave no stone unturned to mitigate the threat to these jobs.

"We now have breathing space to consider our approach to voluntary redundancies and the criteria that may be used in any redundancy programme before we meet management again on 20 September.

"The bottom line is that Unite is committed to avoiding compulsory job losses and we will be actively exploring avenues, such as redeployment and voluntary redundancy."
