Plans to build a new development with up to 200 homes in Leicestershire have been earmarked for approval, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to suggest.

Taylor Wimpey is seeking permission from Melton Borough Council for the scheme in Melton Spinney Road, Thorpe Arnold, on the outskirts of the town.

A final decision is set to be made by the authority’s planning committee at a meeting on Thursday 1 February.

The application was first submitted to the council in 2014.

A council document published ahead of the meeting said: "The borough is deficient in terms of housing delivery and this would be partly addressed by the application.

"Affordable housing provision remains one of the council’s key priorities.

"This application presents some affordable housing that helps to meet identified local needs.

"The site is considered to be a sustainable location, having access to employment, services and public transport in Melton Mowbray town centre and some closer."
