New development opened in Wellingborough, creating 100 jobs
A new development on the Northern Trust’s Leyland Trading Estate in Wellingborough has been officially opened.
The 13-unit 42,447 square feet industrial development was part funded by the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) Local Growth Fund and could result in the creation of 100 new jobs.
It is made up of three separate terraced blocks of industrial and workshop units with sizes ranging from 542 sq ft up to 8,928 sq ft.
The Leyland Trading Estate now extends to more than 230,000 sq ft and is home to more than 110 businesses.
Tom Parkinson, director at Northern Trust, said: "We are delighted to have worked with SEMLEP on this new development, which we anticipate to accommodate over 100 new jobs, adding to the estimated 20,000 jobs currently held within our portfolio of assets.
"We are committed to providing modern industrial accommodation to the SME sector and this new scheme will prove popular with the local business community, especially with the significant growth within the town at Stanton Cross."
Judith Barker, SEMLEP’s director of programmes and governance, added: "There is a well-evidenced gap in employment space for small businesses. These new workshops meet the needs of local businesses in Wellingborough, providing new space for firms to start-up and grow.
"It is a great investment for the area and was delivered on time and on budget."

It is vital to have a reliable method of knowing when distribution, production and other factory-floor-based workers are coming and going because supervisors cannot be expected to recognise the often transient workforce over the full expanse of sites which can be very large.
If staff work on a production line or in packing or another sector with very tight time constraints, then it is vital that management know if someone is turning up late or leaving early, as this will affect productivity levels.
Here at Time and Attendance Midlands, we offer a reliable and affordable system to record and monitor attendance. Our clocking terminals can read either RFID smart-cards or registered fingerprint biometrics, and provide you with virtually real-time data which can be used for reports or exported for easy payroll processing.
Our fingerprint biometrics are a fast and highly accurate way of making sure your workers are individually identified. Once a user has registered their fingerprint, the recorded image is converted into a code through a secure algorithm and stored on the database. It is important to note that no actual fingerprint images are stored and they cannot be reconstructed from the code, therefore the biometric data is still secure.
The other option to use for clocking in and out is RFID smart-cards or key fobs. This passive technology gives a consistent read range which is unaffected by most external conditions. Our cards are approximately the size of a standard credit card and are thin and flexible enough to be carried in your wallet.
