Government funds science centres to improve visitor experience
£13m of government funding is going to the National Space Centre in Leicester to help it attract new visitors.
Five other science centres from across the UK have been awarded the funding: Catalyst in Widnes, Eureka! in Mersey, Glasgow Science Centre, the Dundee Science Centre, and Techniquest in Cardiff.
The money will be used to help create new learning activities, improve the facilities and to help develop sustainable business models.
Sam Gyimah, science minister, said: “We want to bring the wonders of science to as wide an audience as possible and that’s why it is at the heart of our modern Industrial Strategy.
"This investment will help inspire people from across the country to learn about the truly amazing benefits that science and technology has on all our lives."

Constantly attracting new visitors is one of the main aims of the science education and heritage industries. However, even such open-door organisations will have offices, warehouses and other areas where visitors only enter when invited!
At Time and Attendance Midlands we have a specialised solution to this problem: the Management of Contractors and Visitors Software (MCVS). This web-based application allows you to book visitor and contractor appointments in advance. Once appointments are booked, both parties receive a notification email with the details.
No more need for an insecure, illegible visitor’s book!
If your company office or warehouse doesn’t have a dedicated reception, or the area is left empty when workers are busy elsewhere, then we can help there too with our Unmanned Reception app.
Visitors or contractors can book themselves in when they arrive, and you can set up an email alert to let their contact now that they have arrived.
You can also set up other functions, like integration with access control, and special alerts for lone workers who need checked up on.
