Investments drive sales at food distributor

A Derbyshire-based food distribution service has managed to attain strong growth following continued investment in the business, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.

Sales at Holdsworth Foods increased by 15 per cent in the year to February 2014, with managers claiming that the group’s new depot in Essex and the acquisition of Anglia Woods Foodservice in Grimsby during the period had strengthened its buying skills and bolstered its range of products available to clients.

Holdsworth was established in 1969 by its current chairman Michael Holdsworth and employs almost 300 staff across its eight sites, including two in Chesterfield, one in Rugeley and another in Evesham. It also has depots in Grimsby, Essex, Powys and Bedford.

The company stocks about 5,000 lines of frozen and chilled products, which are sold to pubs, restaurants, bars and other catering companies.

The company is now looking forward to further growth and revealed plans to spend £2.5m on a new facility in Chesterfield and refurbishing its headquarters in Tideswell.
