New student village to be built on former hospital site

The site of a former Victorian hospital in Coventry has been earmarked for redevelopment into a student village with enough space to house hundreds of residents, a recent news report in the local media has been able to find.

The scheme aims to revitalise a number of grade II-listed buildings on the site of the Old Hospital, including a Victorian operating theatre, as well as adding new structures. Proposals were submitted alongside an application for listed building consent by Nottingham-based Marchini Curran Associates on behalf of applicant Study City Inns Ltd.

They comprise the refurbishment of two listed buildings, including the operating theatre and nurses home, as well as the construction of new buildings to provide almost 300 student beds.

The development also include a free standing building to house retail space or a café, landscaped grounds, a service access road and space for bicycles.
